About flok
Our Mission
flok Health is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by inherited disorders of protein metabolism. Formerly known as National PKU News (founded 1989), we rebranded to flok Health in July 2023 to expand our scope.
Our Story
Founded in 1989 as National PKU News, our organization has been at the forefront of supporting the metabolic disorder community for over three decades. In July 2023, we became flok Health to better reflect our expanded mission of serving all inherited disorders of protein metabolism.
Today, flok Health supports communities affected by PKU, Classical HCU, MSUD, Tyrosinemia, Organic Acidemias, and Urea Cycle Disorders. We provide educational resources, community events, a mobile app for nutrition tracking, and fund research to advance care.
Our Vision
A world where every person affected by an inherited metabolic disorder has access to the resources, community, and care they need to thrive.
Our Values
- Community First — We center everything we do around the needs of our community.
- Innovation — We leverage technology to transform care and connection.
- Inclusivity — We welcome all individuals affected by inherited metabolic disorders.
- Collaboration — We partner with clinicians, researchers, and organizations worldwide.
